ADI & PDI Insurance Brokers
Find specialist driving instructor insurance providers and learn what to consider when arranging cover for paid tuition, learner drivers, driving tests and a dual-control vehicle.
Why Driving Instructors Need Specialist Insurance
A tuition vehicle is used differently from an ordinary private car. Learners, test candidates and driving examiners may drive or travel in it, and the vehicle may contain dual controls and specialist equipment.
Specialist driving instructor insurance is designed for paid tuition and can include protection for the instructor, pupils and permitted test-day use, subject to the exact policy wording.

How PDI Insurance Works
A PDI policy must reflect your trainee status and permit paid tuition only when you are lawfully authorised to teach for reward.
Some brokers may allow social, domestic and pleasure use before the trainee licence becomes active, then extend tuition cover from the authorised start date. Confirm this in writing.
Declare PDI Status
Do not request a quotation as a fully qualified ADI.
Provide Licence Evidence
Send the insurer any badge or trainee-licence evidence required.
Check the Start Date
Do not teach for payment before legal authority and cover begin.
Monitor Expiry
Tell the insurer about any extension or instructor-status change.
Optional Cover Worth Considering
Ask whether each feature is included, optional or excluded.
Dual-Control Courtesy Car
Check whether a suitable tuition car is supplied after an accident, theft or breakdown.
Public Liability
May cover certain injury or property-damage claims linked to your business.
Additional Drivers
Ask whether a spouse, partner or family member may use the vehicle.
Personal Accident Cover
Consider financial protection if injury prevents you from teaching.
Legal Expenses
Review protection for eligible business, contractual or claims disputes.
Business Equipment
Ask about dual controls, cameras and professional training equipment.
What Can Affect the Cost?
Quotations are individual and may reflect the driver, vehicle, location, intended use and claims risk.
- ADI or PDI status and experience
- Age, claims, convictions and driving history
- Vehicle model, value and insurance group
- Home and operating postcode
- Annual mileage and business use
- Compulsory and voluntary excess
